The Mid Delmarva Summer Classic was held in Salisbury, Maryland at the Schumaker Pond Disc Golf Course on Saturday, June 16. With 61 disc golfers coming out to compete in this PDGA sanctioned C-tier event, it was local Kevin Gleason of the Essential Discs team who emerged the winner in the open division with a final score of 9-under par, shooting a hot 45 in the first round, the best of the day. Gleason has been working hard over the last two years and his perseverance paid off with his first win in a PDGA event in that same time period.
Following at second place, was Walter Winnington of Newport News, Virginia scoring 5-under par while Mike Karp of Newark, Delaware and Andy Heun of Smyrna, Delaware followed at third and fourth place respectively.
In the grandmasters division, it was Trevor Willey of Bridgeville, Delaware who came out with the victory with a final score of 5-over par, while Jimbo McClain of Betterton, Maryland and Jeff Sweetman of Wilmington, Delaware finished in a tie at second place, both scoring 8-over par.
Garrett Long of Annapolis, Maryland captured the win in the advanced division with a final score of 1-under par and Bobby Noble, also of Annapolis, followed in second place scoring 3-over par. Jennifer Devries of Newport News, Virginia was the winner for the women in the division with a final score of 6-over par while Sherry Barlet followed at just a stroke behind scoring 7-over par to take second place.
Dee Luzader was the winner in the women’s advanced masters division with a final score of 17-over par and Ray Menzel won the advanced grandmasters division scoring 5-under par, while Rhonda Lecato won the division for the women scoring 16-over par.
Matthew Kashima of Owings Mills, Maryland captured the victory in the intermediate division with a final score of 12-under par and Tom Cavaliere of Dover, Delaware took the win in the recreational division scoring 12-over par. Finally, in the junior under 16 boys division, it was Sean Van Brunt who got the victory with a final score of 34-over par.
